Well how good is this, am I spoiling you yet? Three days in a row and I have something to show you how to do, instead of just showing you my finished card. I must thank my photographer, he has so much patience, his name is Keith (Brownie to those who know him well) and he is the love of my life except when he annoys the heck out of me. Do you all have someone special like that?
Ok so here is my card and then I will show you how to make the flower on it.
I just love making flowers and using them on my creations, it is so relaxing and rewarding making something from just paper and finishing with something you can be proud of.
Ok so you need some punches, some paper or cardstock, flower centres (buttons, bling, glitter, whatever) some glue (I use PVA or whiteglue), a moulding mat (the back of mousepad works) and a shaper or pointy thing, I use the back of a craft knife.
So I have used this shape of punch, but others are shown at the end of this tootie!! You will need to punch two of each size. I use white card because I colour everything, it is just me, you can use coloured card or patterned paper, the result with be very pretty anyway.
Take one of the flower punchies in your hands ready for your first shaping.
Fold the petal up to create a crease at the base of the petal.
Continue around your flower until all petals have been creased up. Do this to all four flowers.
Now take a flower and place it on your moulding mat, press down with your shaping tool to make a sharp crease from the centre base of the petal to the tip.
Repeat for each petal.
Now repeat this for each of the four flowers.
All four flowers should look something like this.
Now put some clue in the centre of one petal.
Glue the same size flower on top, taking care to offset the petals.
Your two double flowers should look something like this. Don’t worry if they are a little uneven.
If you choose to ink or colour your petals, now is the time. I use catseye foam with a Direct to Paper technique just on the outer edge of the folded petals.
Go right round your flower.
Repeat on the second double flower.
Just some sublte tip colouring really.
Now glue the smaller flower on top of the larger one, offsetting the petals again and putting a centre in to finish off.
When dry pick up your flower and just pinch each petal to sharpen the creases along the petals.
Then you are all done!!! You can sit back and enjoy your pretty creation.
Different flower punches give different results, but all are just lovely. These are the punches I used to get this almost waterlily shaped flower.
The retro flower punch from EK Success gives almost a camellia shaped flower.
A daisy shape from these traditional style daisy punch.
And this pretty one made from the SU 5 petal flower. I have various sizes of this punch from different companies, but chose to make this flower with just 2 petals and a lovely button centre because it gives a very large centre space.
So here is the card again with the pretty flower on it. I love to make and colour mine myself, that way I can colour co-ordinate anything I want to and never have to worry about having the ‘right’ colour in my stash.
I thought I would give you a close up of this beautiful bow, it is really Lisa’s bow, you all know Lisa from the Crafting Cottage, she is my talented friend who inspires me so much. Oh oh she is also a designer for the Cutting Garden a Ladybug, no less!!! Go Lisa!!
Now I thought you might like a tootie on this bow next week, it really is very simple, but I will ask Lisa if it is ok for me to do it. I sometimes put cord and pearls in my blows, it just adds to it so much.
Do you see that little gathered ribbon from yesterdays Tootie??
Well happy flower making, thanks for calling in.
Hugs
Lauren 🙂
Great tutorial Lauren!!!! Thanks…Lovely card!
Mel
Thank you again.. A tip I picked up from this is to crease the petals like you did… I usaully curl them back the other way.. So new flower to put in my stash!!!!!
Hi Lauren, Could you tell me what sort of cardstock you use to make the flowers & where you get it from please. Love all the flowers you make. Regards Gwenda
Hi Gwenda, the cardstock I used for these flowers is a 160gsm from Officeworks, now that is in OZ, but there are papers/cardstock of equivalent in the USA and other countries, it is about the same weight as the double sided papers available or twice the thickness of the nomal copy paper. Hope this helps you. When I make my roses I use a very heavyweight cardstock a 290 or 300gsm. Thanks for your lovely comment and hope to see you here oftne.

Hi just found your site.Your work is beautiful. One question what was the name of your ink and also were can you get it from. Thanks again for sharing your wonderful work.
Hi Monica, thank you, the ink I use is Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink in ‘catseye’ shapes or the paintboxes with removable plates. I am sure I have seen you on the Aussie Facebook sites, so you would be able to get them from some stamping shops, or online or from your Kaszazz consultant, and I think there are some on the Aussie Craft and Scrap Bargains site (Hezs Townsville) Hope this helps, if you need to you can send me a PM on the selling or creative site, love to hear from you 🙂
